What is Ribbon Finance? Project Overview
The Ribbon Finance crypto project is a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform. It offers a suite of protocols designed to provide users with access to crypto-structured products. Furthermore, Ribbon aims to serve as a comprehensive solution for users seeking to optimize their portfolio’s risk-return profile. To achieve this feat, the project leverages derivatives, lending, and proprietary strategies.
Nonetheless, structured products offered by Ribbon include:
- Theta Vaults (DeFi options vaults)
- Ribbon Earn
- Ribbon Treasury
- Ribbon Lend
However, it’s important to point out that, at the time of writing, the Ribbon Finance crypto seems to be a thing of the past. After all, according to the project’s X (formerly Twitter) account, Ribbon Finance is now Aevo:
And there’s a new X account devoted to the Aevo crypto project:
All in all, it seems as if the Ribbon Finance crypto has transitioned to Aevo, which is also the name of a derivatives-focused layer of the network.
History – When Was Ribbon Finance Launched?
Ribbon Finance was officially launched in 2021 after receiving backing from some highly reputable venture capitalists (VCs). The project introduced innovative DeFi products that enable users to participate in crypto-structured products.
Since its inception, the project has rolled out various protocols, such as the strangle option feature, ETH-covered call vaults, WBTC-covered call vaults, ETH-put selling vaults, etc. Notably, these products allowed users to bet on volatility or implement automated options strategies with ease. By continuously deploying new products and features, Ribbon Finance displayed a commitment to pushing the boundaries of decentralized finance.
However, according to the timestamp on Aevo’s X account, Ribbon Finance started its transition to Aevo back in September 2022. The platform narrowed its focus to options and perps trading by this move. Plus, it launched its own layer-2 network called “Aevo,” which particularly caters to those features. Moreover, this network was launched in April 2023:
Ribbon Finance Team
The Ribbon Finance team, responsible for the project’s development and success, manages a diverse set of protocols. The team operates the treasury, oversees the Theta vaults, and designs strategies for the earn and lend products.
However, the project’s commitment to transparency is evident in its decentralized governance approach, allowing the community to actively participate in decision-making processes. The team’s continuous efforts to enhance Ribbon’s features and expand its product offerings underscore the project’s dedication to providing advanced and community-driven DeFi solutions.
Moreover, given the above transition from Ribbon Finance to Aevo, we ought to focus on the Aevo team. According to the Aevo LinkedIn account, the company has 51 to 200 employees and a headquarters in Singapore. Also, there are twelve Aevo employees on LinkedIn:
Those twelve profiles include Ken Chan, who, alongside Julian Koh, co-founded the Ribbon Finance crypto project in 2021.
Note: To dive deeper into the “What is Ribbon Finance?” topic, make sure to visit the project’s official website. It contains links to all the essential outlets, documentation, and community platforms related to this venture. It will also lead you to the official Aevo website.
How Does Ribbon Finance Work?
Ribbon Finance operates as a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform, offering a suite of protocols designed to provide users with access to crypto-structured products. The project combines derivatives, lending, and proprietary strategies to create a comprehensive solution for optimizing users’ risk-return profiles. Here’s an overview of how Ribbon Finance works:
- Structured Products: Ribbon Finance focuses on creating crypto-structured products. They fall into several broad categories: volatility, yield enhancement, principal protection, and accumulation. These products that fall into these categories are designed to cater to different user needs, allowing them to engage in speculation, hedging, and yield generation within the crypto market.
- Theta Vaults (DeFi Options Vaults): Theta vaults, a flagship product of Ribbon, are decentralized options vaults that enable users to trade options strategies on-chain. These vaults leverage a combination of call-and-put options, providing users with exposure to various crypto assets. Users can choose from different strategies, including covered calls, put selling, and more, depending on their risk appetite and market outlook.
- Community Involvement: Ribbon Finance adopts a decentralized governance model, allowing the community to actively participate in decision-making processes. This approach ensures that users have a say in the evolution of the platform, including voting on fee models, treasury utilization, and the introduction of new features. When it comes to governance, the RBN token plays a vital role (more on that later on).
Note: According to recent updates, Ribbon Finance has transitioned to Aevo, a high-performance, order-book-based decentralized exchange designed for professional options traders. Built on a custom EVM rollup for scalability, Aevo aims to become a leading venue for on-chain options trading. In many ways, Aevo adopts Ribbon’s functionalities, but it does add some unique twists. As such, we encourage you to explore Aevo’s documentation:
What is the RBN Crypto? Exploring the Ribbon Finance Cryptocurrency
The RBN crypto is Ribbon Finance’s native cryptocurrency. The token went live on the Ethereum network, where it follows the ERC-20 token standard. $RBN was minted on May 24, 2021, in 1,000,000,000 instances:
Note: The above image outlines some of the Ribbon Finance tokenomics; however, we’ll look at those in more detail below. After all, to be able to answer the question “What is Ribbon Finance?” properly, you need to be familiar with the RNB token!
How Does the RBN Crypto Work?
RBN’s many use cases serve the governance purposes of Ribbon Finance. So, holders of RBN have the ability to vote on governance proposals, influencing the direction of the project. Additionally, RBN is used in staking to receive sRBN, which grants users enhanced voting powers and other benefits. However, as a governance token, $RBN doesn’t directly impact how Ribbon Finance works.
RBN to AEVO
At the time of writing, the $AEVO token doesn’t exist yet. Also, we could not find any details about the token’s launch. However, the Aevo official website does offer the “RBN to AEVO” footer menu item:
The above-outlined link led to the protocol’s RGP-33 proposal, which was approved in July 2023. If you are interested in all the details of this proposal, make sure to check out the discussion behind it:
According to the above proposal, there will be as many $AEVO tokens as $RBNs. Thus, the migration should follow the 1:1 ratio.

Note: According to four different smart contract audits, two of them claim that the Ribbon Finance crypto asset is mintable. As such, make sure to consider this aspect of the Ribbon Finance tokenomics before investing in $RBN.
RBN Crypto Price Analysis
Now that you know what Ribbon Finance is, how Ribbon Finance works, and what Ribbon Finance tokenomics looks like, it’s time we take a closer look at the RBN price action.
It’s worth pointing out that the token didn’t start trading right after it was minted in May 2021. In fact, the oldest price data we can see dates back to October 2021:
By looking at the above line chart, you can see that the RBN price went from nearly $5 to as low as $1.38 in the final quarter of 2021. However, the asset managed to pull off a relief rally, starting in the second half of December 2021. And you can see this run properly in the Coinbase’s $RBN chart below:
In the above weekly candlestick chart on a logarithmic scale, we also included the most significant support and resistance levels. This basic TA enables us to put the current $RBN price into perspective. So, you can clearly see that RBN is currently rather close to the bottom of its trading range.
So, following the asset’s local top in December 2021, its price pulled further down with the rest of the crypto markets. The bear market brought the $RBN price down by more than 97%, marking its bottom on May 17, 2023, at $0.12.
$RBN’s 2023 Recovery and Money Line
After the aforementioned bottom, the $RBN price doubled in 89 days, reaching $0.25 on August 15, 2023. However, the token was rejected at that significant level, and the price pulled back to $0.15 by the end of September. From there, the asset recovered slightly, but it is still battling with the $0.20 level.
As you may know, there are many TA tools and indicators out there. Generally, we prefer to stick to the basics, such as price levels, trading volume, and RSI, all of which you can see in the above chart. However, our in-house experts developed a specially practical and powerful indicator – Money Line.
The simplest way to use this tool is to buy/long when it offers the “Bullish” signal and to sell/short when it signals “Bearish.” The best way is to focus first on the weekly and then on the daily timeframe. And, at the time of writing, the Ribbon Finance crypto is “Bullish” on the daily and “Bearish” on the weekly timeframe:
Note: Once you opt for the Moralis Starter or Pro plan, you can access the Money Line indicator for free.
Ribbon Finance Price Prediction – Future Forecast of the RBN Crypto
First of all, let’s remind you that any crypto price predictions, especially the ones looking several months or years into the future, can be highly misleading. After all, they are purely speculative. That said, please take our Ribbon Finance price prediction with a grain of salt.
If the rest of the crypto markets were to continue moving upwards, $RBN could soon reach its major resistance at $0.40. On the other hand, if the markets were to move sideways or even downward, lower levels of significance would come into play for $RBN. So, the levels outlined in the above chart are the most likely Ribbon Finance price predictions.
As far as the end of the next bull market top Ribbon Finance price prediction goes, we do believe that the $3 – $3.5 region is the most likely target. However, it is also possible for the asset to break above its current all-time high (ATH) and enter the price discovery mode. After all, the Ribbon Finance tokenomics renewal of the $RBN to $AEVO transition may offer the project some extra boost.
