What is Pulsechain?

PulseChain is a layer-1 blockchain developed by Richard Heart, the founder of the popular ERC-20 token HEX. PulseChain’s mainnet first went live in May of 2023, after raising billions of dollars in an initial coin offering (ICO). PulseChain is sometimes referred to as “the biggest airdrop in history”, as it grants holders of Ethereum tokens and NFTs free versions of their assets on PulseChain.

PulseChain will run on its native “PLS” token. To acquire PLS tokens, users participated in a so-called “sacrifice phase”, during which they could donate any cryptocurrency or fiat currency to a list of supported addresses or charities. How does Pulsechain work?

PulseChain is the first-ever hard fork of the Ethereum blockchain to contain the full state of the Ethereum blockchain. This allows PulseChain to hold records about e.g. Ethereum transactions, user balances, and smart contract interactions. PulseChain seeks to provide a low-cost, scalable alternative to Ethereum. PulseChain will utilize a so-called Proof of Staked Authority (PoSA) consensus mechanism.

Essentially, PulseChain took a snapshot of the Ethereum system state and replicated it on a new network with some alterations. PulseChain’s native PLS token can be utilized to e.g. activate validators, pay for transactions, and bridge to other chains. Furthermore, PulseChain seeks to provide quicker block times than Ethereum. PulseChain is already home to some dapps and DeFi projects, such as the AMM PulseX.
